What to do, what to do...

Lately, I've had a lot of feed back here on the blog (and from random strangers at Walmart) that I should be selling my hats and whatnots. And I think I want to.

But I'm nervous.

I've gone to the 'register to be a seller' page on Etsy like fifty times.

Then I just stare at it.

And do nothing. Well, nothing but stare.

It feels like this huge step and what if?... What if my product isn't as cool and cute as I think it might be? How do I effectively market so that people will actually SEE my stuff? 'Cause there's a lot of people selling. What if people think my stuff is cute, but not cute enough to actually invest? What if they think it's crap?

*Sigh*. And so, I stare.

Then I make another hat for Eme. And don't waste my time worrying that he's gonna reject my stuff.

'Cause he won't... At least not for a few years yet.

Have any of you 'taken the plunge'? Any words of wisdom or encouragement?

  1. I say do it. Because your baby hats are so adorable and creative and high quality. Plus baby hats are super popular on Etsy, and people are willing to spend a lot of money on them.

When you do start an Etsy shop, I would love to host a Giveaway for you. That would get the word out about your shop- I'm pretty good at promoting Giveaways. Let me know if you are interested!

  2. Do it! I've made tons of hairbows and I'm not selling them on Etsy, but I did start selling them at church to benefit our nursery. You would be amazed at how many people love the handmade crafts. I'm sure you'll do great :)

  3. That's interesting, Maleah. It sounds like you're truly internalizing people's views of what you make. Why is that? I'm just saying there's some sort of emotional/mental connection there. Have you thought about it? It sounds like you don't want to be rejected by people and that that's a strong link for you, so if people reject your creations, they'll be rejecting you. Which isn't true! You need to own whatever it is that is TRULY bothering you. What if you brought some treats you made to a party of 100 people - all of them your closest friends and family who love you. There are lots of treats made, brought, and offered, but say only 65 people taste or eat YOUR treats. Have the other 35 people rejected YOU and personally insulted and disowned (or whatever) you as their friend/relative? Of course not! Maybe they just happened to be allergic to an ingredient in your treat! Or some of the other treats were just more to their liking. At the end of the day, no one's opinion of you has changed, other than more gratitude from the 65 who DID eat your yummy treat!

Okay... that was long-winded... but I think you should be brave and share your AWESOME talents with the world. :)
